Where?s hot, where?s not ? Simpson Millar reveals the holiday illness hotspots

Manchester, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 13 May 2012

Britons planning to jet off abroad on their summer holidays should be aware of the parts of the world where they?re more likely to get ill ? and take sensible precautions when travelling to high risk areas.

The infographic reveals that the top holiday destination for a holiday travel bug is Egypt, with illness in Turkey, or Thailand also being a health hotspot for holidaymakers falling ill with the food poisoning bug salmonella. While Spain, Turkey and Pakistan are the worst countries for cases of the water-borne infection cryptosporidium, linked to poor hygiene in swimming pools. Food poisoning bug campylobacter is most likely to strike those holidaying in India, Spain and Turkey, say Simpson Millar?s holiday claims experts.

Nick Harris, head of international travel law at Simpson Millar, which has represented thousands of holidaymakers who have fallen ill while abroad, says: ?It pays to do a little research before you go abroad and it?s useful to know that there are certain countries and parts of the world where the risks are greater when it comes to getting ill. We hope this infographic to the world?s gastrointestinal illness high risk areas will be of some help to people.”

Nick Harris also comments: ?Of course, we?re not suggesting people shouldn?t go to these places. But there are some sensible precautions you can take and some simple dos and don?ts which you can follow to reduce the risk of getting ill if you do travel to high risk countries. Our key advice relates to food as this is the main source of gastrointestinal illnesses such as salmonella. It?s important to avoid food which hasn?t been cooked properly or served in a hygienic way. Stick to food which is piping hot and also take care with hand and food hygiene.?

That?s the advice from Manchester-based travel law specialists Simpson Millar LLP Solicitors which has compiled a useful infographic on the world?s tummy trouble hotspots.

The full guide and holiday illness hotspots infographic are available on our website. It also reveals the areas of the world where people are most likely to fall ill. Central and South America, Africa, the Middle East and South Asia are the high risk zones where there?s a 20% chance of getting struck down with diarrhoea while on holiday. Areas where there?s an intermediate (8-20% risk) include Southern Europe and Northern Asia. Northern Europe, North America, Japan and Australia and New Zealand are the places where holidaymakers are least likely to fall ill.

Salmonella remains the biggest cause of illness among Briton?s travelling abroad, accounting for 50% of holiday illness cases. Campylobacter is the second most common reason for tourists to fall ill, with one in four cases attributed to the bacteria.

Holidaymakers who think they may have been a victim of food poisoning or any other illness whilst on a package holiday abroad which was believed to be caused by negligence on the part of their tour operator or accommodation provider should contact Simpson Millar?s Travel Law Team on 0808 145 1353 today to find out if they can help you.

Swords, Ireland (PRWEB) May 03, 2012

Ingersoll Rand addressed global challenges with local action as thousands of Ingersoll Rand employees worldwide participated in Earth Day activities April 16-27.

The events and workshops for employees, customers and the community demonstrate how collaboration can improve the environment for everyone. Participants learned how to use energy more efficiently, reduce waste, improve their carbon footprint and green the environment. Specific events included:

Kansas City: Employees received free vehicle tire pressure checks to ensure optimal fuel efficiency; a shredding truck was also on site to shred and recycle office and home papers; and associates learned about rain barrels and composting from local organizations.

Hong Kong: Employees traveled to an organic farm where they learned about the health benefits of eating organically. They also had the opportunity to help with farm work, such as plowing and planting seeds.

Clarksville, Tenn: Back by popular demand, an e-waste recycling event collected thousands of pounds of electronic waste from employees. The items ? such as computers and televisions ? were properly recycled and kept out of the local landfill.

Muskoka?s Deerhurst Resort will host the multi-talented Steven Page as part of the latest concert event at this landmark Ontario hotel on Easter weekend.

Page?s big voice, bright sense of humour and engaging personality are the centerpiece of Music & The Masters so dubbed because he?s also appearing at Deerhurst on the biggest weekend in international golf.

The iconic Canadian singer-songwriter- guitarist will perform tunes from his latest EP, ?A Different Kind of Solitude?, which was released in January, as well as from his solo album ?Page One? which features both hook-happy cuts like ?New Shore? and ?Indecision,? as well as richly layered, melodic showcases like ?Clifton Springs?, named tongue-in-cheek after a rest stop on the road between Page?s central New York and Toronto homes.

The Adirondacks’ Wilmington Whiteface Bike Fest Slated for June 14-17

Wilmington, Adirondacks, NY (PRWEB) March 26, 2012

With a mix of uphill, downhill, serious competition and family fun, the Annual Wilmington Whiteface Bike Fest is set for June 14-17, 2012.

The weekend’s free family-friendly events begin with “Fun not Fear” mountain bike instruction for beginners at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 14.

On Friday, spectators will enjoy incredible stunts, jumps and tricks at the Kyle Ebbett and Friends Jump Jam and Trials exhibition at the Wilmington Bike Park from 6:00-8:00 p.m., followed by the much-anticipated welcome party at Steinhoff’s Sportsman’s Inn, featuring live entertainment, a raffle, prizes and the 2nd Annual “Best Calves of Wilmington” contest.

At 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, a parade of costumed riders and decorated bikes will participate in the “Brainless not Chainless Gravity Ride” from Santa’s Workshop downhill to Lake Everest in Wilmington, where the BikeFest Beach Party begins at 5:00 p.m. with music, vendors, a pro rider exhibition, family games, and awards for the Gravity Rides best costume and best decorated bike!

In addition to the many free family-oriented events, the weekend also includes three sanctioned competitions.

Saturday, June 16 features the 11th Annual Whiteface Mountain Uphill Bike Race beginning at 8:00 a.m. The race is part of the BUMPS (Bike Up the Mountain Point) series that comprises ten races on mountains of the Northeast, on courses of varying lengths and pitches.

The Uphill Bike Race will be followed by the Whiteface downhill dual slalom races, which begin at noon.

Sunday’s action includes the Pro GRT Whiteface 7th Annual 5k Down Hill. This event is expected to draw approximately 200 professional and amateur racers.

And the 2nd Annual Wilmington/Whiteface 100k Race takes place with a shotgun start at 7:00 a.m. The 100k race is a qualifier for the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race.

For mountain bikers who like high elevation racing on the most rugged of terrain, the Leadville Trail 100 is the holy grail. As one of the most well-known mountain bike races, getting into the Leadville Trail 100 has always been difficult. One way to get in is by racing in one of the six 2012 LT100 Qualifiers across the country, each offering 100 total qualifying starting positions.

The race will start and finish at Whiteface Mountain, home of the 1980 Olympic alpine competitions, and weave its way through jeep roads, back country tails, Jay and Saddleback mountains and through the towns of Wilmington, Jay, Lewis, Elizabethtown and Keene before a grueling 2,501-feet climb awaits the racers at Whiteface ahead of the finish line.

“There’s something there for everyone,” said the LT 100 qualifying series technical director David Weins, a six-time LT 100 champion. “From single track, rugged back country roads, gravel and dirt roads, not to mention the climbs and descents, this course is going to offer a significant challenge. Perhaps similar to the LT 100 itself.”

“Wilmington and Whiteface Mountain comprise a mecca for outdoor recreation, from skiing and riding to world class fly fishing and cycling,” said Randy Preston, Supervisor of the Town of Wilmington. “Together, the Bike Fest events serve to highlight some of the greatest road and mountain bike terrain in the Adirondacks.”

For more information about the weekend’s events visit http://www.whitefaceregion.com. To register, contact the Whiteface Region Business & Tourism Center at 518.946.2255 or email info(at)whitefaceregion(dot)com.
